2025 Mood Board

Here’s my mood board for 2025—though I might switch it up halfway through the year! Below the photo, I’ll explain each category and what I love about it.

This mood board is mainly for my clients with straight, fine hair, but it’s definitely not limited to just that. If you feel like your hair type isn’t represented, don’t worry—many of these looks can be adapted for all hair types!

Perms

Perms are finally getting some attention here in Minnesota! I’ve been perfecting my perming skills for two years now, waiting for people to ask for them—and now it’s happening! There are two types of perms: Cold Wave and Digital Perm. Both give you soft waves, but they’re done a little differently. Digital perms work best on hair that's longer than chin-length.

Mid-Length Styles

Mid-length hair is the trend for 2025 and will probably stay popular all year. A lot of clients who’ve had layered hair are now ready for a change—something shorter and fresher as they head into their next hair growth phase.

Shorter Styles

Short hair is for everyone! Whether you’re growing your hair out or just ready for a shorter cut, this look is great for both men and women. If you’ve got curly or wavy hair, a perm on a short style is a perfect match. Many of these short styles are trending with male clients—especially those who go for a low fade with a heavier top. This has been super popular with clients ages 17–22.

Layered Styles

There are two main types of layered cuts: long and short layers. Depending on the vibe you’re going for, you can pick either. Long layers usually start below the shoulders, while shorter layers begin above the shoulders.

Color Trends

More clients are going for light brown and cherry cola colors—perfect for brunettes who want something low-maintenance. For those who want a little more pop, visible highlights are trending for both blondes and brunettes. This style is huge in Korea and Japan right now, as well as in the street style scene, where mixing textures and colors creates a fun, bold look

4 Ways to Keep Your Hair Healthy:

Cut Your Hair Regularly
Cutting your hair twice a year can help prevent damage caused by ponytails, claw clips, and even moments when your hair gets tangled in a seatbelt or stuck in a zipper. Over time, your hair becomes stressed, which is normal, but it can lead to split ends, breakage, or even hair loss. Regular trims give your hair a fresh start, sealing split ends and preparing it for the next few months.

Hair Cutting Schedule:
Every 4-6 weeks: Maintain your current style.
Every 6-12 weeks: Maintain your style while being more budget-friendly.
Every 5-6 months: Allow your hair to grow longer while keeping it healthy.

Brush Your Hair
Leaving tangles and snarls in your hair can stress the strands, leading to breakage and weakened hair. A simple brushing routine, twice a day—once in the morning and once at night—will help keep your hair healthier and reduce the risk of damage.

Stop Sleeping with Wet Hair
Though I’m not a scientist, I’ve heard from many people who complain of oily hair or itchy scalps without any signs of dandruff. Often, the culprit is sleeping with wet hair. Your scalp nourishes your hair, and when it’s kept moist for extended periods, it doesn’t have the chance to breathe. This can weaken the hair, making it harder for it to grow long and shiny.

Take Your Vitamins
I’m not a medical professional, so it’s important to consult a doctor before adding any new vitamins to your routine. Personally, I take Vitamin D because I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels when I use it. As I have a Vitamin D deficiency, I need to supplement it to support my overall health. Vitamin D can also promote hair growth by helping follicles function properly. Additionally, I take a fish oil supplement to reduce scalp inflammation, which can damage hair follicles and contribute to hair loss. Omega-3s improve blood circulation to the scalp, providing hair follicles with the essential nutrients they need.

Hair Washing; A Lesson For Everyone

 

Hello this is the written version of the video. I wanted to break it down this way too just in case learning through video is not for your or if you are hard of hearing and my auto captions make no sense. Directly below the written version will be the video.

I wanted to share a couple tips on scalp care. I have had many clients tell me that their scalps are flaky, dry, tight, itchy, slightly painful. Most of what I’m seeing is that clients aren't cleansing their hair enough because of the pandemic and lack of social activities or not washing their hair correctly. Some clients have scalps that look healthy and dont have build up, but still experience the tight, itchiness skin. If that is you I recommend you to seek a medical professional to take a look at your scalp to make sure it isn't something that needs medication.

I am all for the lazier lifestyle but maintaining hygiene it very important still because if we do not take care of it now it can lead to other skin conditions. So below will be a How-To on hair washing to make sure we are properly taking care of our scalps to prevent build up/flakiness.

The process of removal might take more than one wash to get rid of the build up. Please be patient with this process because it didn't take one night for the build up to happen, so it will take more than one scalp prep to remove it.

Tools Needed:
- Comb and Brush
- KEVIN.MURPHY’S BALANCING.WASH 
- Your daily conditioner.

Build Up Removal.

( if you don’t have a lot of build up you can move to step 3 and start there)

Brush your hair from roots to ends making sure you are brushing your scalp to break up the build up and distributing natural oils to your ends.

For short hair, take your comb and comb through your making sure you are combing your scalp again to break up the build up.

If you have a lot of build up, go through your scalp with your comb and zig zag across your scalp slowly but firmly to continue to break up the buildup. Don't pretend you are a Julliard violinist and terrorize your scalp with rough zig zags.

2. Rinse your hair in the shower to remove the build up that was lifted.

3. Grab some BALANCING.WASH (shampoo) squeeze about a nickel size into your wet palms. (if you can more hair start with this much then add more shampoo later)

4. Lather the shampoo back and forth until it looks creamy (images below)

5. Apply the creamy texture to your roots at the temples, top of the head, nape area and crown.

5. Rewet your hair slightly 

6. Use your finger PADS not your finger TIPS. You can think of your finger pads where your finger prints can be found (images below)

8. Gently work the shampoo until a lather forms. Don't forgot to massage the shampoo on the top of your head and the crown of your head. (image below)

9. If a lather does not form, please go through and redo steps 3-8.

12. This can happen if you have a lot of hair or your hair is very dirty and needs to be cleansed twice. That’s okay and can happen to many people who wait a long time in between washes.

13. After cleansing, follow with your conditioner of choice. Conditioner is used at your discretion many people only apply to their ends, some use it all over. It depends on what your oil levels are at.

14. Rinse with cooler water to close the cuticle and you completed your hair wash.

Hair color: Make It Last longer

 

On my Instagram post I shared a couple items on how to have long lasting color:

I wanted to break it down on this blog. 

The five items to achieve long lasting colors are; An amazing stylist, products recommended by your stylist, regular weekly or biweekly hair masks or treatments, lower heat settings on your styling tools, cooler water temps when washing your hair.

I honestly could ramble on about each one intensely but to save your screen time I’ll keep it to the bullet points.

  1. An amazing stylist - this one was to be funny. Find a stylist that makes you confident and comfortable. 

  2. Products…. Teehee. I know someone has been jaded by a stylist with product. They bought product once, it didnt work for them and then were stuck with this $30 thing that will get shoved in the back of the linen closet. I have been there too! But if your stylist is passionate about items they sell you have to trust their word and try it out for yourself! Your never going to know until you try. I always guarantee my products, if you dont like an item i promise you we can find something that will be your pace that will continue to protect your hair. I LOVE leave-in conditioners like KEVIN.MURPHY’S STAYING.ALIVE & LEAE-IN.REPAIR and thermal protectors like Olaplex No6, Olaplex No7 or EVER.SMOOTH. Easy lazy hair products that can save and protect your hair and color.

  3. Your strands are made up of cuticles. Lets pretend the cuticles look like an upside down flower. When the cuticles expand too much (like a bloomed flower) the color molecules escape and hence why many people say their toner fades or their color doesnt look vibrant anymore. Because with washing/friction and heat exposure the cuticles open up allowing color to escape. 
    Treatments, this will really help your color out because it'll continue to keep your hair cuticles smooth. When treating your hair I love two specific treatments, RE.STORE and Olaplex No3 they both are repairatives treatments that will help restore your hair health. Smoothing out the cuticles and giving your hair a lot of shine, luster so the color will stay vibrant.

  4. Lets head straight into your heat settings on your hot tools. Fine hair should never have heat over 325 applied to your hair. Coarse thick hair can handle up to 425. Never let an iron heat up for more than a few mins, an extremely hot iron can cause damage to the hair and can instantly remove color. Cool the temperatures down a little bit and that will save your hair.

  5. Along with #3 heat will open up your cuticle. This is great for treatments but wash days with cooler water temps will continue to keep the cuticles closed allowing no color escape and maintaining color vibrancy. I let clients know that if they want satanic water temperatures to burn their skin during a bath or shower at least clip up your hair so the water doesnt run on your hair causing any damage.
